Support for the Reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act
One of TechVoice's leaders,
CompTIA, maintains the
Getting America Back to Work (GABTW) Program. This program provides a comprehensive process for assessing, training, certifying and placing unemployed individuals into entry and mid-level IT technical positions. GABTW works through community colleges and partners for the training component. Funding for the training and certification vouchers is provided through the Workforce Investment Act, and GABTW relies on collaboration with Workforce Investment Boards and One-Stop Career Centers to use this tool.
Policy Goal: We urge Congress to pass the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act. We recommend that WIA reauthorization include sufficient flexibility for WIBs and One-Stop centers, provide for training for One-Stop staff, and that it support incumbent worker training so that individuals can update skills, retain jobs and advance in careers. Plus, we support the DOL goal of increasing credentials through WIA funds by 10% by 2012.
